Personally, I don’t think that it changed Nightcrawler’s thematic premise that much. Unfortunate mutation or actual half-demon, at the end of the day poor Kurt is still a morally decent man, whose hunted and hated for no other reason, than for the way he looks.

Yeah, it’s pretty much a consensus across the fandom that it’s the worst X-Men story ever written.
