RFTIT Tumblr Weeklyish Roundup

Hello, everyone. Work continues on Dorne Part I, and you already know the rest of the game plan from last week.

So let’s jump straight into the Tumblrs:

Regarding Mace, I see it mostly as being cautious. The Stormlands army is in the Riverlands, so attacking the Stormlands is pretty safe. Dorne is with the Targaryens and the Westerlands are undeclared. If Mace joins the rebels the Reach could be attacked on multiple fronts to prevent them joining up with the rebel coalition.

If Rheagar had won, Mace is in a great position. If Rheagar lost, the rebels would grab King’s Landing and the war would be over. Mace can (and did) sue for peace. With the Reach army intact and no grudge against Tyrell among the rebels (except Stannis), the rebels has little reason to do anything but accept. It is the cautious choice, and Mace is cautious.

Btw, did you mean marry Margery to Aegon? If Rheagar had won, Viserys would come after Rheagar and Aegon in the line to the throne.

I would love to see a Witcher TV series, particularly one done in full pulpy fantasy fashion with the episodic structure of The Last Wish (i.e. one-off episodes and mini-arcs instead of a long, serialized show).

I feel like fantasy and SF need to Embrace the Cheese more when it comes to special effects. The effects really don’t look that bad as long as you cut them so that live stuff is never in the same frame as the CGI stuff (or only fleetingly is).

So glad to see more people pointing out that Renly was fully aware of the twincest and planning to profit from it. I was kind of gobsmacked when I posted what I thought was a detailed and persuasive post about it on /r/asoiaf and had so many people react badly to it – all because “Renly said he didn’t know in ACOK.”

Well… d’uh. If he tells Catelyn Stark that “oh yeah, Stannis is actually right – Joffrey’s a bastard, Stannis should be Robert’s heir but LOL who wants King Stannis” then Cat and every other noble with a brain is going to dump Jolly King Renly on his arse.

    • Yeah, Renly skepticism has been something I’ve been pushing for a long time and it’s good to see it gaining a foothold in the fandom.

The show has a lot to answer for. Gethin Anthony is adorable and I loved his portrayal of Renly, but the show made Renly a lot more innocent than the books do… and people confuse the show with the books. Loras wasn’t the only one with ambitions and Margaery wasn’t the only one who wanted to wear a crown.
